About the Department
Genesis

The Department of Commerce was established in 1985. It is one of the first four Departments with which the University was created. The Department was re-named as Department of International Business and Commerce (IB/COM) which ran the programmes - M.Com, M.Phil and Ph. D.

The Department of International Business and Commerce was bifurcated into two Departments- Department of Commerce and Department of International Business in the academic year 2016-17. The Department of Commerce now offers the following programmes- M.Com, M. Phil and Ph. D. At present, there are six faculty members including two Professors, one Associate Professor and three Assistant Professors and four adjunct faculty members.

The Curricula of M. Com and M. Phil programmes get regularly updated, by taking cognisance of the internal and external sectors of Indian Economy and global market. The students are nurtured in such a way that they become competent to face the challenges of the employment market and their subject knowledge gets fortified. Apart from focussing on the completion of syllabus, the Department of Commerce organises a number of extra-curricular activities such as special classes on the Enrichment of Communication Skills, Personality and Leadership Development Skills, Coaching for Competitive Examinations. The Department makes all possible endeavours to bring about all-round progress in students.

  1. To associate with international subject experts for enrichment of curriculum and other academic endeavours.
  2. To hone the employability skills of students through practical internship programme offered in every semester.
  3. To impart entrepreneurial skills to students through interaction programmes with entrepreneurs in different fields.
  4. To make the students socially and ethically responsible citizens through various awareness programme.

7 Description The Department of Commerce have adopted the Village Extension Programme (VEP) at Illangudi & Karukudifor three days from 10th March 2023 to 12 March 20223. Students involved in cleaning campaign in and around and temple campus. Students have interacted with village people for creating awareness on avoidance of usage of plastic. Students are involved in Tree Plantation to protect the environment.
8 Outcome The Department of Commerce and Corporate Secretaryship  organized village extension programme at Illangudi & Karaikudi with lot of awareness programme (10.03.2023-12.03.2023) like Tree Plantation, literacy campaign etc. the students sensitised the villages of Illangudi & Karukudi, cleaning the school campus and Environment Protection, all the students along with officials.
